Despite Recent Decrease, Robocalls Still Affect Millions in US

Good news: U.S. households received only 2.46 billion robocalls in October, according to the YouMail Robocall Index, which represents a decline of 5.6 percent in call volume when compared to September.

Bad news: The October 2016 call volume still represents a jump of 261 percent when compared to October 2015. The reality is that the U.S. is experiencing more automated calls than many people would prefer. U.S. households have seen approximately 240 billion calls this year from automated systems, and only in the last two months have they been party to any type of decline in overall volume.

YouMail CEO Alex Quilici, whose company tracks these figures, provided his voice to make it clear that people are growing weary of the consistent barrage of calls that enter their homes.

“Americans have grown tired of the constant drumbeat of automated robocalls that come in at all times of the day or night,” Quilici said. “YouMail is tackling this annoying problem head-on by providing useful data for analysis and workable robo-blocking solutions to help consumers and businesses protect themselves.”

The YouMail Robocall Index is only part of the services that Quilici’s company offers. It makes sure to track calls by area code, so individuals know how much they are being affected. Then it uses that information to help build its Android and iOS apps that can play an automated message of the customer’s own— one that tells automated systems their phones are out of service. Customers can then report their annoyances to YouMail about specific phone numbers that can be found in the YouMail reverse phone index.

YouMail also reaches out to businesses with its application programming interface (API). Enterprises can use the API to build their own applications with the capability of determining whether or not incoming calls should be answered.

Individuals and businesses in states such as Texas, California, New York, Florida, and Georgia, which received the most robocalls of all 50 states, should be particularly interested in what Quilici and company have to offer. It may not always have been easy to stop unwanted, automated calls, but services such as the Do Not Call registry and these various services from YouMail can give consumers and enterprises a chance to survive the pervasive storm.
