Voip-Pal has Patent Pending on Lawful Intercept Technology

November 07, 2012

Shortly after launching a retail website, Voip-Pal announced that it now has a patent pending on its Lawful Intercept technology.

The patent application will likely be reviewed by officials in the European Union, the United States and Canada.

Voip-Pal claims that Lawful Intercept is “remarkably similar” to Microsoft's "Legal Intercept" – which is also patent pending. Also, Voip-Pal's Lawful Intercept’s filing date precedes Microsoft's Legal Intercept filing by two years, Voip-Pal said.

Lawful Intercept was integrated into Voip-Pal's proprietary VoIP Softswitch Platform.

Voip-Pal/Digifonica's Lawful Intercept is called “revolutionary technology”, which lets legal agencies “perform scheduled and live intercepts (wire-taps) on Digital Voice telephone conversations,” according to TMCnet.

It complies with the European telecommunications Standards Institute and U.K. National Handover Interface Standard standards. Several nations appear interested in this kind of technology, the company said.

"Federal law enforcement agencies have expressed frustration in trying to track and record criminal and terrorist internet conversations," Dennis Chang, president of Voip-Pal, said in a company statement. "Our Lawful Intercept technology would allow government agencies to silently record VoIP communications.”

In fact, the Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act requires that telecom carriers and manufacturers of communications equipment offer equipment that can be used for surveillance by federal law enforcement agencies.

Voip-Pal/Digifonica has three other patent pending applications: "Producing Routing Messages for voice over IP Communications," "Mobile Gateway," and "Uninterrupted Transmission of Internet Protocol Transmissions During Endpoint Changes."

Voip-Pal.Com Inc. is a broadband VoIP telecom company providing VoIP services to residential and business customers. Voip-Pal.Com recently acquired the wholly-owned subsidiary, Digifonica.

In other recent company news, Voip-Pal.Com recently launched its new retail website, www.PlatinumPhone.com. “The site employs a user-friendly interface and customers can access reliable and cost effective VoIP services on their PCs, tablets and smartphones," Chang said in company statement. "This new sales channel is designed to greatly accelerate our revenue and to keep up with the current demand of today's VoIP customers. By diversifying its revenue stream, Voip-Pal is in a tremendous position to rapidly gain a large share of the multi-billion dollar business and residential VoIP market."
